JEDDAH, 6 October 2004 — Ten young Saudis have completed a six-month training course in food and confectioneries preparation, which was organized by ALJ Fund for Vocational Training and Development, in collaboration with Amoun College in the Jordanian capital Amman.
Abdur Rahman Al-Ohali, Saudi ambassador to Jordan, patronized their graduation ceremony. The envoy, in a speech delivered during the ceremony, appreciated ALJ Fund for Vocational Training and Development for its interest in helping young Saudis to take up vocational jobs. It was the second batch of graduates of the training program, the first having passed last April from the same college.
The training course lasted six months, during which the Saudi trainees completed theoretical training in Jordan. This was followed, at the beginning of this month, by practical training for four months. Practical training is conducted in the hotels which hired graduates right from the beginning of the program. Four graduates are being trained at Jeddah Marriott, two at Al-Bustan Hotel in Jeddah and the remaining four are receiving their training at Al-Hamra Sofitel in Makkah.
The supervisors of this group’s practical training are from the academic staff of Amoun College who were deputized especially for this mission.
Ibrahim Badaoud, senior manager, ALJ Programs for Community Services, emphasized that the training course came as a result of requests from various hotels to benefit from the services of graduates especially after the good impression created by the first batch.
He also pointed out that the ALJ Fund’s role is not limited to supervision and follow-up during the training course, but extends also to cover their work in hotels and to help them overcome any obstacles that they may face in their job.
