AL-GURAYAT, 7 October 2004 — More than 40 workers, including six Saudi security guards, have complained against their company for not paying their salaries for nine months. The men, who gathered in front of the employment office in Al-Gurayat, said their company had repeatedly promised them their back wages but never made good the promise. Some of the workers have left work because of the long delay in payment.
A source at the employment office said the office would investigate the case.
It was learned that the company was working on two projects — one worth SR8 million with the agriculture department and the other worth SR1 million with Al-Gurayat Municipality. It was also learned that the company’s contract would run out soon.
A source at the Agricultural Ministry said it was going to solve the issue by taking part of the contract money from the company and paying the workers.
Following an increase in the number of wage disputes, Al-Jouf Governor Prince Fahd ibn Badr has instructed private companies and institutions never to delay workers’ salaries.
