KARACHI, 7 October 2004 — Two gunmen attacked a security post outside a mosque in Karachi yesterday killing two policemen and wounding one civilian, police said. The assailants attacked Hussainia Irania mosque in the city. They fled on a motorcycle. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack. Earlier this year, police blamed militant groups for a series of assaults on Shiite mosques in Karachi and other major cities. On Tuesday, another police officer named Mahmoodul Hassan was shot dead in what Karachi’s deputy police inspector, Fayyaz Leghari, said was a target killing.
