RIYADH, 15 October 2004 — The Ministry of Interior has warned Saudis and expatriates against buying charity coupons. It has been proved that people with links to terrorist groups get large sums of money through the sale of such coupons outside mosques.
An Interior Ministry source said that investigation into the recent spate of terrorist attacks in the Kingdom confirmed that the militants got their money through the sale of large quantities of these coupons.
The source warned the public to be careful while donating to charitable activities saying that they could instead donate money through licensed charity organizations to guarantee that the donations reach people in need and not terrorist hands.
