ANKARA, 13 September 2005 — Turkey’s gross national product (GNP) grew by 3.4 percent in the second quarter of 2005 compared to the same period last year, the state statistics institute announced yesterday. The government has targeted 5.0 percent growth for 2005 under a three-year, $10-billion stand-by deal with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) after a record growth of 9.9 percent last year. Gross domestic product, meanwhile, expanded by 4.2 percent in the second quarter year-on-year, the institute said.
