The Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research (ECSSR) in Abu Dhabi is an independent center focused on scientific research and studies on social, economic and political issues of interest to the United Arab Emirates and the Gulf region in particular and the Arab world in general. Now in its 11th year of activities, ECSSR (www.ecssr.ac.ae) has established itself internationally as a respected strategic think-tank.

ECSSR conducts studies and research, engages in community services and prepares and trains researchers. Such activities are undertaken with the aim of ECSSR achieving its objectives, namely: Encouraging scientific research which springs from the aspirations and needs of the community; organizing intellectual activities; monitoring scientific developments and exploring their implications; and adopting programs that support the development of national researchers.

The center is interested in collection, documentation, storage and analysis of data and information through modern scientific means, collaboration with UAE public bodies and institutions in conducting research and futuristic studies and preparation of specialized publications in Arabic and English.

Over the last decade, the ECSSR has published over 450 research publications in Arabic and English covering political, economic, social and strategic issues. Its publications are required reading for all those aiming for greater understanding of the Middle East through consideration of the Arab perspective. Recent titles in English include: “The Long Road From Taif to Jeddah: Resolution of a Saudi-Yemeni Boundary Dispute,” “The Gulf: Challenges of the Future,” and “International Interests in the Gulf.” ECSSR also publishes the proceedings of its lecture series.
