BHOPAL, 21 September 2005 — Federal Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh has described as “malicious propaganda”, the row over claims by a book that ministers in Indira Gandhi’s government had links with erstwhile Soviet Russia’s intelligence agency KGB.
Arjun, who is in Bhopal on a two-day visit, said on Monday that it is beyond imagination that a leader of her (Gandhi’s) stature could be lured. “I have never heard it or seen it. It is easy to call someone guilty,” he said in reply to queries by media persons on reports that the KGB had bribed several politicians and ministers during Indira Gandhi’s rule.
“This is beyond imagination that a leader like Indira Gandhi would be influenced by such things,” he said adding, “it is malicious propaganda.”
He said changes in the norms of IIT entrance tests were not his personal decisions but a collective one of persons who govern the IIT Board.
