ISLAMABAD, 28 September 2005 — The Supreme Court yesterday upheld the death sentence awarded to Sarabjit Singh for his role in a bombing in Lahore in 1990 that killed five people.
The two-member apex court bench turned down a judicial petition against Sarabjit’s death penalty given by the Lahore High Court for carrying out five bombings in Pakistan, finding him guilty of causing innocent deaths on behalf of India’s intelligence agency, the Research and Analysis Wing.
Sarabjit’s lawyer, Rana Abdul Hamid, told reporters that he would file a review petition in the same court today.
Sarabjit can also request President Pervez Musharraf to waive his execution or commute the death sentence into life imprisonment.
This is the court’s fourth ruling against Sarabjit who claims he is innocent.
