JEDDAH, 7 October 2005 — An auction event was opened Wednesday night at the Intercontinental Hotel in Jeddah organized by the Charity Warehouse.
The revenue from this honorable event will be given to more than 4,000 poor families.
This event has taken place for the first time in the Kingdom and its pioneering effort will be in evidence till the 9th day of Ramadan during which old Islamic antiques that date back thousand of years will be auctioned.
The executive manager of Charity Warehouse, Saud Feleet, said that many people attended the auction. Organizers of the event showed close to 3,000 rare pieces.
Experts and university teachers were called to the auction to verify the historical value of each piece on display, most of which belong to Saudi families.
Many private collectors attended the highly successful and innovative auction to feast their eyes on an impressive array of early historic artifacts including the first Holy Kaaba Kiswa decorated with verses from the holy Qur’an from the time of King Abdul Aziz.
The auction also included a beautiful cover embellished with gold fashioned during the time of the Ottoman Empire which used to cover the grave of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
Also on display was a rifle used during the battle of Riyadh.
The name of King Abdul Aziz was carved on the rifle. The exhibits included watches that King Abdul Aziz gave as gifts to leaders of the world.
