JEDDAH, 10 October 2005 — A Pakistani worker was killed and two others were wounded by unidentified gunmen in an apparent mugging incident in Wadi Dawasser, south of Riyadh, on Friday.
The two gunmen, who came in a jeep, opened fire on the service vehicle used by a group of six Pakistani workers on an agricultural road outside the city, Al-Jazirah newspaper said. The gunmen fled with SR10,000 in the possession of the workers after threatening to kill them.
The wounded Pakistanis, who are receiving treatment at Wadi Al-Dawasser Hospital, said the gunmen halted them and flattened the tires of their truck.
“The gunmen ordered us to hand over all the money in our possession without getting out of the vehicle. Each of us threw down whatever we had. They took the money and escaped in their jeep, at the same time firing in our direction, killing one of our colleagues,” the Pakistanis said, adding that a passerby took them to hospital.
This is the second such incident in Wadi Dawasser in less than 10 days. On Sept. 30, an Egyptian was attacked by unidentified gunmen on an agricultural road north of the city.
