JEDDAH, 24 October 2005 — Bader International School (BIS), one of the youngest Filipino schools in the Kingdom, may soon be accredited to teach the Philippine educational curriculum.
Arab News learned that Undersecretary Manaros Boransing of the Department of Education (DepEd) was happy with the schools he inspected during his visit to the Kingdom during the last week of September and first week of this month.
In his ocular inspection of BIS in Jeddah, Boransing said he was particularly impressed with the school’s facilities and teaching staff.
“I am impressed,” he said in a meeting with school management headed bv Mrs. Helen A. Kiritharan.
He also congratulated school Principal Maria Teresa O. Villanueva, saying; “I am happy to have come to your school and met the team, who I think are committed to make this school the best in Jeddah.”
Boransing also conducted an ocular inspection at the Al-Andalus International School (AAIS) in Alkhobar during his visit to the Kingdom.
Boransing said the inspection is required by the DepEd to all schools seeking accreditation.
He said the department wants to ensure that schools teaching the Philippine curriculum provide high quality education.
BIS has a provisional permit that was granted earlier this year by then Education Secretary Florencio Abad, pending the ocular inspection.
Students from schools not accredited by the DepEd have to take certain examinations when they transfer to other Philippine schools abroad or at home.
In Jeddah, only the older International Philippine School in Jeddah (IPSJ) and the Al Hekma International School are DepEd-accredited.
