DHAKA, 28 October 2005 — A ruling Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) leader was shot dead by Maoist guerrillas at Purondorpur village in Jibonnagar sub-district in Chuadanga district Wednesday night.
Police said terrorists sprayed bullets on Jomiruddin, 55, vice-president of the village committee when he was going to a nearby banana garden at Banjpara to call his son at about 9 p.m.
Purba Banglar Communist Party (ML-Janajuddha) claimed responsibility of the murder to some local journalists over telephone saying that they killed him as he was working as a police informer.
Police recovered the body and sent it to hospital morgue for autopsy.
Meanwhile, two activists of the Jatiya Party (JP-Ershad) were killed in a bomb attack at the remote Akdiarchar village in Narail district.
The victims were identified as Nazrul Islam and Swapan Boiragi, both inhabitants of Kolora union under Narail Sadar sub-district.
