KUWAIT, 29 October 2005 — Several hundred demonstrators occupied the offices of a television station in Kuwait to protest against a show they said had insulted a tribal group, security sources said yesterday.
They said police intervened late on Thursday to disperse the stone-throwing protesters who broke windows and scuffled with staff at the offices of the private Al Rai satellite television.
Three policemen and four other people were hurt, they said.
The demonstrators, members of Al-Sliba tribe, were angered by the remarks of an actor during the popular comedy television series called Gergean, which they deemed offensive.
Middle Eastern televisions air special serials during Ramadan, a time of peak viewing in the region.
