JEDDAH, 9 November 2005 — The Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) in cooperation with the general secretariat of GCC’s united chambers and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) is hosting a workshop on anti-dumping within the framework of the World Trade Organization. The workshop will take place on Nov. 19 and 20 at the JCCI Businessmen’s Club.
“The workshop aims at preparing participants to understand the issues related to dumping at the WTO by having experts explain the terms of agreement and presenting the attendants with the latest developments and suggested changes on the terms,” said Mohammed Al-Sharif, JCCI secretary general. The workshop consists of seven lectures on thirteen important issues as well as discussions on actual WTO member disputes which were resolved according to the organization’s mechanisms.
“The scientific and practical ways followed in the workshop will afford the participants an experience in the concept and measurement of dumping based on WTO regulations and knowledge of the rules and procedures in investigating dumping and support as well as ways of resolving disputes,” said Al-Sharif. At the end of the workshop, the participants will receive an official certificate. Around fifty businessmen from Saudi Arabia, Gulf and Arab countries are expected to participate; the majority are importers, exporters, agents and legal specialists. Al-Sharif added that the workshop is part of JCCI’s efforts at providing services and information to members as Saudi Arabia enters the World Trade Organization (WTO).
