NEW DELHI, 13 November 2005 — India and the United States signed a joint declaration yesterday to energize agricultural research between New Delhi and Washington, to set the stage for US President George W. Bush’s visit in February.
The declaration formalizes India-US knowledge initiative on agriculture announced by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and President Bush this year in July. Mangala Rai, Director General, Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and J.B. Penn, Under Secretary for Farm and Foreign Agricultural Services, United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) signed the declaration in presence of Indian Union Minister for Agriculture Sharad Pawar.
“We want to capitalize on complementaries and harness coherent synergies, we wish to maximize positive inter-action to derive more than the sum total out of this Initiative not to serve for the betterment of our two countries but the other countries of the world also,” Rai said while signing the declaration
