KANDAHAR/TRIVANDRUM, 22 November 2005 — Taleban yesterday threatened to kill an Indian engineer they are holding hostage unless his company stops work in Afghanistan by today.
The family of Maniappan Raman Kutty, the Indian driver, expressed hope that his abductors would show mercy and let him off. His wife Bindu, who appeared on local television channels, said her two sons aged eight and three did not know of their father’s plight and his aged parents were totally shattered.
Meanwhile, two civilians were killed and four people including two Afghan soldiers were wounded yesterday in two rocket attacks on an official building in restive southern Afghanistan, police said.
One rocket landed on the headquarters of Khak-e-Afghan district in Zabul province injuring two soldiers. Hours later another rocket was fired close to the same building, killing two civilians and wounding another two.
