RIYADH, 23 November 2005 — Friday will be a very busy day for Filipino civil and electrical engineers and architects in the national capital.

The Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers, Inc., Riyadh Central Region International Chapter No. 2, PICE-KSA for short, is holding its first-ever convention at the Howard Johnson Hotel in Olaya District.

The Institute of Integrated Electrical Engineers of the Philippines, Inc., Central Region Chapter, Saudi Arabia (IIEE-CRCSA), Charter No. 69, is hold its 7th annual convention at the Najid Hall of Marriott Hotel.

George Manlangit, PICE Riyadh vice president for education, said the event is open to civil engineers and architects.

Delegations from the PICE KSA Eastern Region International Chapter No. 1 and AFCE-KSA Western Region Chapter are also expected to come, he said.

Also expected are sponsors and representatives of various engineering companies and the Philippine Embassy.

Chapter president Emmanuel Espinosa said they were inviting members to join the technical quiz contest “to win big prizes,” in addition to the technical presentations, lecture and product displays.

“Outstanding members will also be given recognition and awards,” he added.

For the IIEE affair, Ambassador Bahnarim Guinomla, has been invited as guest speaker. He as also asked to induct into office the newly elected board of directors for 2006, said Renato Datuin, the chapter’s current president.

Highlights of the who-day activity starting at 7 a.m. include a technical seminar, product presentation, election of officers for the coming year and a general membership meeting. Francisco Sigaya Jr., IIEE-CRCSA internal vice president, said that new technologies and latest products will be presented and exhibited during the convention.

“We hope that this will benefit the electrical practitioners in pursuit of improving their skills and competence,” he said.

Although Filipino engineers groups in the Kingdom have the tendency to use kilometric names, they are known to be the most organized, along with the accountants.

A third group is the Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers (PSME), whose three chapters in the Kingdom, have been reaping awards from their mother unit in the Philippines for outstanding performance.
