JEDDAH, 28 November 2005 — The Philippine Embassy in Riyadh will be closed today in observance of Bonifacio Day, according to Ambassador Bahnarim A. Guinomla.
Bonifacio Day, one of the Philippines’ regular holidays, is on Nov. 30 but Manila moved the holiday to Nov. 28 for this year so that workers and students could avail themselves of a longer weekend vacation.
“It’s an official policy and we have follow it,” Ambassador Guinomla explained by telephone from his office in Riyadh.
The holiday is in honor of Andres Bonifacio, a worker who led the Philippine Revolution against Spain in 1896.
Vice Consul Romulo Victor M. Israel Jr., the embassy’s acting administrative officer, said regular office work will resume tomorrow.
