TEHRAN, 28 November 2005 — Britain, France and Germany have accepted Iran’s offer to resume talks which broke down in August about the country’s disputed nuclear program, the official IRNA news agency reported yesterday.
“The ambassadors of Britain, France and Germany handed over a letter in which the EU3 foreign ministers have accepted the resumption of talks in December,” IRNA said, quoting a statement issued by Iran’s Supreme National Security Council.
Iran’s chief nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani earlier this month wrote to the so-called EU3, calling for the resumption of talks.
An EU diplomat in Tehran told Reuters the EU3 letter said talks could only resume if Iran were ready to discuss a Russian proposal.
The plan enables Iran to maintain a civilian nuclear program but uranium enrichment would be transferred to Russia.
