JEDDAH, 4 December 2005 — Prince Mohammed ibn Nawaf, the ambassador-designate to the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland, has said he will work toward strengthening Saudi-British relations in political, economic, cultural and security fields.
In a press statement carried by the Saudi Press Agency after his arrival in London, Prince Mohammed said he was happy to represent Saudi Arabia “in a great country like Britain, having immense political and economic clout on the world stage”.
“Security will be one of the topics I will be focusing on, especially the cooperation between the two countries to combat terrorism,” he said, adding that both Saudis and Britons have suffered because of terrorism.
After Friday prayers, Prince Mohammed met with representatives of the Saudi community and a group of Saudi students studying in Britain at the Saudi Embassy.
Prince Mohammed, who was previously the Kingdom’s ambassador to Italy and Malta, is a graduate of Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Studies and Harvard University’s John F Kennedy School of Government.
