BHOPAL, 6 December 2005 — Monica Bedi, underworld don Abu Salem’s girlfriend, has been remanded to two-day police custody after she was produced before a local court here yesterday amid tight security in a fake passport case. In view of security concerns, the women’s police station, where the former Bollywood starlet was lodged after being brought from Hyderabad late last night, was converted into a court room where Judge D.K. Dangi remanded her to two-day police custody. According to Bhopal Superintendent of Police A.K. Singh five days of police remand was sought, but the court granted two days only. Monica was brought under tight security from Hyderabad by a train to Itarsi and then shifted to Bhopal by road. She, along with Abu Salem and three others, was accused of procuring passports on forged documents around four years ago. Monica is due to appear in a court in Hyderabad on Dec. 9.
