RIYADH, 1 September 2006 — The electronic store Best, described as the largest store of its kind in the Kingdom, is planning to open a chain of 20 shops over an 18-month period at a cost of SR600 million.
Speaking to Arab News on the occasion of the inauguration of two of its shops yesterday, Best CEO Mohammed Adil said the retail store is much more than an outlet for electronic items.
“We provide home appliances, computers and accessories, books, toys, Internet services, car electronic devices and services, technology support, and a live demonstration kitchen featuring the latest concepts and gadgets in home cooking.
There is also a section for the future home with a focus on the art of elegant living,” said the Adil, who is also the CEO of the Geant chain of hypermarkets that is part of the Fawaz Al-Hokair Group. Adil added that they have the largest collection of items under a single roof.
Thousands of customers arrived to witness the opening day of two Best superstores located on Exit 16 of East Ring Road, and Exit 26 on Khurais Road, Riyadh. Each store is contained in an area ranging from 3,000 to 5,000 sq. meters.
Adil said the company has signed a contract with SABB to provide a facility for customers — both Saudi and expatriate — to pay by installments.
Customers wishing to take part in this new scheme have to simply fill out an application form and open a bank account with SABB for their salary to be credited into the customer’s bank account. The amount will then be deducted in monthly installments.
Together with the low-range of prices and paying by installment facility, the company hopes for the best in attracting a wide customer base.
For children, there are play and gaming areas, while a techno café caters to all types of customers wishing to refresh themselves.
Asked about their Saudization plan, Adil said Saudis would comprise at least 30 percent of the work force. They will be trained in-house to serve their customers in the best manner possible, he added.
