NEW DELHI, 14 April 2006 — Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos yesterday asserted his country’s support for India’s permanent membership of expanded United Nations’ Security Council (UNSC). “We believe India deserves a seat in the UNSC,” Papadopoulos said. “We recognize India’s contribution in international affairs,” he said while delivering a lecture on “Cyprus as a bridge between India and the European Union.” Describing Cyprus as an “ideal destination” in certain areas, Papadopoulos said that it can become “window to the European Union” for Indian companies in Information Technology, Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical sectors. The products can be readily exported to the EU through Cyprus, Papadopoulos said. He is on a state visit till April 16. As a member of Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG), during his talks with Manmohan, Papadopoulos confirmed his country’s support for Indo-US nuclear deal, inked during President George W. Bush’s visit.
