JEDDAH, 21 April 2006 — A policeman killed his superior in his office in the presence of other security personnel in Taif on Tuesday, local Arabic newspapers reported yesterday.
The sergeant, who was critically wounded, died at Prince Mansour Military Hospital soon after his arrival there. The killer was later arrested.
The accused, a non-commissioned officer, shot the sergeant with his service revolver from a point-blank range and managed to escape. Some of his colleagues went after him but the man disappeared.
Later, investigators were tipped off that the accused fled to Kalaga, his native village in the north of Taif.
A police contingent, headed by Taif Police Director Brig. Musaed Al-Lahaibi, surrounded the house of the accused’s brother when they found his (the accused’s) car parked outside. His brother asked the police to refrain from acting in haste as the suspect was armed. He assured the police that he would hand over the accused to them. After some time he brought the accused who was arrested immediately.
