BOMBAY, 28 April 2006 — The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leadership is considering flying senior party secretary Pramod Mahajan abroad for treatment if he fails to respond to treatment here.
According to a party source, senior leaders held consultations but have not yet arrived at a decision. They would take the advise of his doctors before deciding.
Mahajan’s condition is still critical, six days after his youngest brother Pravin had pumped three bullets into his body. BJP President Rajnath Singh said any decision on taking Mahajan abroad would be taken only on the advise of the doctors at the Hinduja Hospital.
A BJP party source said that the party is considering flying Mahajan to the United States on a chartered special air ambulance.
According to Dr. Anupam Varma the condition of Mahajan continues to remain “critical but stable” with his blood pressure marginally improving. Some doctors said that any improvement in blood pressure did not necessarily mean that Mahajan is on the road to recovery.
“The threat to Mahajan’s affected organs like duodenum, liver, pancreas and small intestine are not over and the next 48 hours are more crucial,” said a doctor, on condition of anonymity.
