JEDDAH, 4 May 2006 — The Jeddah Teacher’s College announced yesterday the names of the 21 winners in the student council elections held on Tuesday.
Students of the nine departments in the college voted for 21 members of the 25-strong council. The remaining four members will be nominated by the dean of the college, Hassan Aayel.
The council is scheduled to kick-start its deliberations on Monday.
Two Yemeni students who contested the elections are among the winners. Sharaf Al-Medwahi will represent the computer science department while Hussein Sharhan will represent the English department.

Abdullah Al-Harbi and Hussein Sharhan (English), Abdul Rahman Al-Asmari and Abdul Aziz Al-Malki (science), Nafi Al-Salami, Muhammad Al-Johni and Naif Al-Mutairi (Mathematics), Ali Hakami and Abdullah Hazazi (Qur’anic studies), Anwar Al-Salami, Fahd Al-Shammarani, Tareq Al-Salami and Anwar Al-Sadiri (Arabic), Olwan Al-Qarni, Ahmad Al-Somali, Naif Al-Ghamdi (special education), and Sami Al-Shammarani, Abdul Rahman Al-Shahari, Munaji Al-Kanaani, Muhammad Al-Qahtani and Sharaf Al-Medwahi (computer science).
Students hope that the council will play a significant role in solving their problems involving accommodations, stipends and class schedules, which they say are constant headaches to them.
