JEDDAH, 22 May 2006 — A fisherman’s fishy scheme to mislead the coast guard and cheat the agricultural bank in the Eastern Province of SR300,000 went awry when the coast guard team refused to take the bait. The fisherman claimed that his boat had caught fire at sea and as a result, it was no longer seaworthy. The coast guard became suspicious when the man insisted that they issue a certificate to the effect that the boat had caught fire and sunk. Upon further interrogation, the man admitted that he had sunk the boat deliberately because he did not want to repay the bank loan with which he bought the boat. Police arrested the man for attempting to defraud the bank, Okaz daily reported yesterday.
