JEDDAH, 30 May 2006 — Italian Consul General Adriano M. Santacesaria opened a Murano artistic glass exhibition at the Italian Cultural Center on Sunday night.
“We’ve brought some of the best Murano glass exhibits, all handmade,” he said at the opening that was attended by consuls general, officials and businessmen.
Domenico Caminti of Rezzonico by Il Vetro Dei Dogi said nearly 150 exhibits were on show. The exhibition ends today.
On display are some of the artistic chandeliers and objects that have been decorated with 24K gold leaf melted into the glass. “Prices range from SR300 to SR50,000,” he said, adding that the art has been handed down over the centuries by the Murano masters, and even today every single piece is skillfully blown, signed and accurately refinished with freehand techniques.”
The ancient chandelier designed in the 18th century by the famous glass master Giuseppe Briati for the Venetian noble family inspires the Rezzonico collection.
“Each chandelier of our collection is completely handmade by our glass masters who blow each small glass,” Caminti said.
