MADINAH, 30 May 2006 — Officials from the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice in Madinah arrested two youths in a raid on a house where alcohol was being brewed and sold.
Acting on a tip-off, the officials confiscated 200 liters of alcohol, 35 Captagon tablets, a substantial amount of hashish, empty bottles, hashish wrapping paper and distilling devices. The young men had been operating from a small cabin, which had been built next to the house where they lived.
The bootleggers had also placed a video camera at the front of the house to monitor whether the police were approaching or not. The administrative chief of the West Harra area also participated in the raid.
In news elsewhere, Jizan police stopped a motorist carrying a large quantity of qat near Abu Arish, Al-Watan newspaper reported. When police approached the car the smuggler ran away on foot leaving behind the car together with the narcotics, which were seized by the police.
