RIYADH, 31 May 2006 — Henry Omaga Diaz will join Balitang Middle East (BME), a news program produced by ABS-CBN’s The Filipino Channel (TFC), as lead anchor starting on Friday’s BME episode, a press statement of the network said yesterday.

Diaz, who has gained “special attachment” to the hearts of migrant Filipinos in the Middle East because of his past coverage of important events such as the Sarah Balabagan case, the hostaging of Angelo dela Cruz and Roberto Tarongoy in Iraq, and the Iraq war, has also been known for his Isang Tawag Ka Lang segment of the TV Patrol, wherein he provided immediate action on problems brought to his attention.

TFC said it is beefing up BME with more timely news stories, more in-depth coverage, and an added public service segment, Bantay Kabayan, which will address the needs and concerns of the OFWs and their families.

“Henry’s credibility and stature as a broadcaster is perfect for the renewed mission of BME,” said Dindo Amparo, who remains at the helm of TFC’s Middle East News Bureau.

If before, BME is “boses at kabalitaan ng mga OFW sa Gitnang Silangan,” BME is now “boses at kabalitaan, kaagapay at maasahan ng mga OFW sa Gitnang Silangan,” Amparo said.

“We do not just deliver the news, we bring results. We give care and attention. We do a lot of assistance and pubic service. That’s what we are and what we’ve been doing, and we will do more,” Amparo added.

Now on its fourth year, BME remains the voice of OFWs, and a credible source of OFW news and information, he said.

The new edition starts on Friday at 10 a.m.

on TFC, and on Saturday at 4 p.m. on ANC.

Also this month, TFC’s magazine show Kuwentong Disyerto (KD) will bring “more laughter and hope” to Middle Eastbased Pinoy as it celebrates its first year anniversary. Hosts Connie Sison and TJ Manotoc will feature special celebrations like weddings and reunions of their families in the Philippines.

“This will give OFWs a chance to see and talk to their loved ones on TV — live, and as they return to the country, KD prepares treats like taking them to the set of their favorite soap operas,” the statement added.
