DUBAI, 22 June 2006 — Dubai Summer Surprises 2006 (DSS) was officially inaugurated yesterday evening at the Mall of the Emirates. The opening ceremony officially ushered in the summer fiesta, entertainment and smiles amid cheering crowds and VIPs.
The event was laced with performances by a 23-member Russian troupe of acrobats and laser shows, which also marked the formal opening of the Ice Surprises Week (June 21-28), the first of the 10 themed weeks of DSS 2006.
The performance began with Modhesh, Dubai’s cheery mascot, who came down skiing on the ice rink. Then came the main highlight of the show, a performance by renowned Shangri-La acrobatic ice circus.
The specially created ice rink spread across an area of 450 square meters in the Galleria area of the Mall of the Emirates staged the half-an-hour long show by the acrobatic performances, a show endorsed by former Olympic skating champion Katerina Witt.
The 10-week long DSS will continue till Sept. 1.
