It is no hidden secret that Britain’s Jewish community has played a historic role in the creation of the Zionist State of Israel. The Jewish community in the UK has been ardent supporters of Israel for years and therefore serious implications arise when we learn that 300 prominent British Jews paid for a full-page advertisement in Britain’s leading and biggest broadsheet newspaper, The Times. The advertisement, entitled “What is Israel Doing”, called for condemnation of Israel’s military action in occupied Palestine.
Blind support for Israel’s crimes and genocide has done immense damage to the US administration. Such outrageous and unjust support will only help achieve goals contrary to what the supporters of Israel intend. Israel’s supporters, whose blindness and racism prevent them from seeing reality and understanding the truth, have become even more Zionist-like than the real Zionists themselves.
As for Arabs and Muslims, they should learn that just as the position of Britain’s Jews confirms it is about time we brought an end to all our relationships with the enemy. This fundamentally is the only way to ensure the region’s stability and avert a tragic and disastrous outcome.
On the other hand, it was never out of courtesy that Saudi Arabia forwarded an initiative to bring a solution to the Palestinian issue — a perfect chance for Israel and the US to end the Palestinian genocide. Many sensible politicians and Western media outlets echoed the same. Addressing the Israeli government, Belgium’s Le Sueur newspaper called for Zionists to take advantage of the Saudi proposal, but the problem is that the Israelis — supported fanatically by the Americans — don’t want peace. They rejected the Saudi initiative as soon as it was announced and continue rejecting any similar peace initiatives.
Questions remain — what is it that the Israelis want? What encourages them to reject peace proposals? Why do they want to continue violence and terrorism? In response the German newspaper Junge Freiheit said, “Israeli prisons are crowded with thousands of Palestinian women and children taken as hostages. These prisoners are kept in cruel and harsh circumstances while the Israeli military attacks Palestinian villages and cities continuously.”
Despite Palestinian distress, people around the world fail to seriously do something to force Israel to put an end to the way it violates human rights and international laws. Yet, the minute an Israeli soldier is captured by a group of Palestinians, countries the world over rush to defend democracy and human rights and condemn Palestine while hesitating to condemn the recent Israeli aggravations that have turned life in Gaza into a living hell.
Israeli logic implies that Zionists can commit crimes and slaughter Palestinians ignoring human rights and international laws without any fear of international prosecution or rebuke. But Palestinians are not expected to respond to such violations.
The horrendous military operation that is being carried out by Israel in the Gaza Strip is nothing but a way of completely annihilating Palestinian infrastructure and an example of naked Israeli terrorism against the Palestinians. The same can also be said about what is presently happening in Lebanon. The reality is that the Israelis firmly believe that they have every right to continue occupying and attacking Lebanon for centuries to come. They believe that they are entitled to undertake assassinations and kidnappings in Lebanon, targeting whomever they wish and imprisoning them without trial or charge.
In its article, Le Sueur condemned the international community’s silence. It seems the world is oblivious of the military campaign that Israel is presently undertaking against the Palestinians. The international community is totally insensitive to the way Israel is destroying Palestinian infrastructure, roads and houses while mercilessly slaughtering innocent people. Interestingly, Le Sueur warned that the Israelis interpret the world’s silence as an implied approval to do whatsoever they wish.
Le Sueur’s article further questioned why the world was unable to react to the Palestinian situation. Is it that the world’s leaders are upset because the Palestinian people voted Hamas? Le Sueur said, “Israel has tried using occupation, settlements, property confiscation, blockages, curfews, bombings, imprisonment and detainment. Now it is time Israel found an alternative way and pursued a totally different path.”
Le Sueur’s point of view is reflective of what the majority of independent media outlets around the world believe. The US, along with the Europeans, is fully responsible for Israel’s crimes. If Israel, the US and Europe really want to make a true commitment to peace they need to pressure the Israelis to accept the Saudi initiative.
