DUBAI, 7 September 2006 — Targeting the half-million Keralites in the UAE, the Malayalam-language daily Siraj has launched its edition in Dubai, which had three other dailies in the south Indian language.
Siraj will now share the market with Malayala Manorama, Gulf Madhyamam, Middle East Chandrika and Arabia Eveninger.
“We launched the Gulf edition on Friday with about 12,000 subscribers,” said Nizar Syed, Siraj’s Gulf editor in chief. “The daily is distributed by Malik News Agency and we have well-equipped bureaus and reporters across the Gulf.”
Siraj has five editions — Kozhikode, Cochin, Trivandrum, Kannur and Dubai. India’s notable scholar, A.P. Aboobacker Musaliyar, is the chairman of the paper.
“We give much importance for the expatriate-related issues. Moreover, we sell the paper for just one dirham while others sell their dailies for two (dirhams),” said K.M. Abbas, an editor for the daily.
