What makes a young Saudi teenage girl blindly trust a man and send him a video or an improper picture of her via Bluetooth? Regardless of whether she has principles or not, no woman would want scandalous pictures and videos of her distributed among people.

The issue is very serious and dangerous. However, I don’t want to lose my argument in a mental maze by questioning why this happens — I believe these things are clear and obvious to all. Rather, I’d like to focus on how easily Saudi teenage girls place their trust on perverted strangers and end up sharing with them intimate aspects of their private lives.

The failure of education and a general lack of proper upbringing are the reasons behind teenagers behaving in this way. There is an absence of social awareness and a general lack of knowledge that has caused our youngsters to develop weak characters and an underdeveloped sense of caution.

In fact, we really are not making valuable efforts in warning our children about the harms of dealing with strangers, nor are we educating our females about the manipulative and deceptive ways of men. At home, family members fail to discuss the possibility of sexual harassment. It’s a taboo subject and people feel embarrassed to address such issues or warn teenagers about them. Even schoolteachers, who are more aware than mothers about these issues and are generally in a position of responsibility, lose interest and fail to warn girls of the possible dangers in society.

Teachers are always burdened with schoolwork and have a superficial and inadequate system to follow.

Moreover, if a teacher tries to enlighten her students and attempts to warn them against placing too much trust in the opposite sex by explaining to them their devious ways, she may get punished. It seems that society wants our young women to remain blind and stupid until a male predator or a homosexual makes her conscious of such dangers in the wrong way.

The spread of disgraceful Bluetooth videos of teenage girls confirms the fact that ignorance, naiveté and blind trust are the reasons behind this problem.

Girls don’t simply intend to expose their families or sabotage their reputation and future. But their naiveté and ignorance drives them to blindly trust a man and share pictures without foreseeing the scandalous outcome. I believe it is because girls have not been warned either in school or at home.

The most liberal and free women from across the world do not easily share improper pictures of themselves with any Tom, Dick and Harry. They realize the terrible consequences of such actions. We need to change our strategies in spreading awareness and abandon ancient ideas of shame and embarrassment in discussing such topics.

The more this diseases grow, the more dangerous and threatening will it be for our teenagers. We must wake up and think seriously of the consequences.
