Intelligent DDI
Recently, Samsung unveiled the ‘intelligent’ mobile display driver IC (DDI), which enables the displays on handheld devices to deliver clearer images in broad daylight. The development of DDI once again proves the supremacy of Samsung, a leader in advanced semiconductor technology solutions.
The launch of DDI is aimed to further strengthen Samsung’s market hold in the Middle East and Africa region. The company is confident that the new product will definitely increase the parent company’s sales, which amounted to $56.7 billion in 2005 and a net income of $7.5 billion.
This region is in a state of dynamic growth demanding state-of-the-art products that are ahead of the worldwide trends.
Samsung’s development of intelligent mobile DDI has revolutionized its application, which until now has been designed simply to drive the LCD panels mounted on mobile devices. The intelligent version reduces display power consumption and improves image quality on mobile displays.
Samsung’s new DDI device automatically measures the brightness of ambient light and determines the optimal image output. While enhancing the visibility of on-screen images outdoors, this DDI device can reduce the power consumption of the display module by nearly 30 percent by lowering the backlight brightness in an indoor environment.
Demand for mobile DDI continues to expand, from mobile hones to MP3 players, personal medial players and other product segments. Samsung expects the global DDI market for mobile color display to increase from 1.6 billion units in 2006 to 2.3 billion units in 2009.
