JEDDAH, 6 October 2006 — LG Electronics, introduced its “Time Machine” TV with a built-in digital video recorder, described as the world’s first, here on Wednesday night.
“With the unique and innovative function of a built-in digital video recorder, LG changes the way you watch television,” Ammar Y. Naghi of Yousuf M.A. Naghi & Sons Group, told a press conference at the Jeddah Hilton.
With the built-in digital video recorder, viewers can stop live broadcasting any time they want. “Users have the ability to pause, rewind and replay a live broadcast, skip unwanted sections and watch shows without missing a scene and watch them indefinitely,” he said.
“LG has raised the pleasure of viewing the flat panel TV by setting a new trend,” C.K. Cho, LG general manager for Saudi Arabia, said.
The new TV incorporates an 80GB hard disc drive. The DVR is integrated in the TV. It has the capability of storing up to 40 hours of digital standard-definition programming. It also has the facility of continuous automatic recording at one-hour intervals, ensuring a seamless viewing experience.
“The function makes viewers swift through time because it’s possible to watch a movie, for example, five minutes behind the original broadcast or to enjoy the scenes of your favorite programs over and over again,” Cho said.
With one remote control, all the functions can be controlled, from normal watching to setting various types of recording. “These functions ensure that the viewers can watch TV any time they want,” he added.
LG has taken the position of being the world’s largest manufacturer of plasma panels in the first quarter by producing 730,000 panels, Cho said. “LG will lead the market in flat-panel TV sets by maintaining its strong competitiveness in terms of cost and technology. We hope to become the largest plasma TV producer in 2007.”
