JEDDAH, 16 October 2006 — Those who are looking to give charity in order to create a smile on the faces of the needy people during Ramadan and Eid, but do not know where or who to give their donations to, can contribute to the Al-Sawani Eid Clothing Campaign.

During Ramadan, Al-Sawani Company is collecting as many clothes as they can. Donated clothes will be washed, packaged and then distributed to the needy in cooperation with various other companies including the Naqel Company, the World Assembly of Muslim Youth and Charity Warehouse.

“We expect a good contribution from people. We are glad that the number of donations has exceeded our expectations,” said Abdullah Nazir, advertising coordinator of the Al-Sawani Group. Some people bring a bag or two full of used clothes that are in a good condition for donating.

“We were glad to find that most of the clothes look new and clean. Some people buy new clothes and have included them into baskets for needy people,” he said.

For each item of clothing, people that donate are given a SR5-coupon that they can use when they spend SR100 or more in a Al-Sawani shop. In some malls where there is a big range of Al-Sawani shops, clothes are collected in big carts. Malls that have a large number of Al-Sawani shops in Jeddah include the Basateen Center, Aziz Mall, Heraa Mall, Jamea Plaza and Serafi Mall.

There are baskets spread out in 375 Sawani shops around the Kingdom including those for brands like Guess, Benetton, XOXO, Swish, Ice Berg, La Perla, Marina, Max Mara and others. “Some of the donators give us addresses and phone numbers to direct us to some needy families they know,” Nazir said.

In order to deliver the clothes, the Naqel Company has taken charge of transportation for the campaign. Naqel will collect clothes almost every two days from the shops to the Charity Warehouse. The charity in turn will prepare and package the clothes for distribution. “Collected clothes must be ready by Ramadan 25 (Tuesday),” said a spokesman.

Efforts are also made individually by Al-Sawani to deliver the clothes to poor neighborhoods on a daily basis.
