JEDDAH, 29 November 2006 — Sony is currently recalling eight models of their Cybershot digital cameras due to a glitch in the liquid crystal display.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Sony Corp. said malfunctions were mainly due to operations “in high temperatures and humid circumstances that could cause the camera to fail to show images thru the viewer or may not work at all.”
The statement said Sony would exchange defective parts free of charge.
Currently models DSC-F88, DSC-M1, DSC-T1, DSC-11, DSC-T3, DSC-T33, DSC-U40, and DSC-U50 sold between September 2003 and January 2005 are included in the recall.
Renato Fernandez, marketing manager for Modern Electronics Company Ltd., subsidiary of Al-Faisaliah Group Holding Company and sole distributors of Sony products in the Kingdom, told Arab News that his company has maintained a list since October 2005 of cameras that have had problems working in hot weather. The company had a list of ten models it claims have had similar problems.“The eight models released on Saturday for recall by Sony will be added to our list,” Fernandez told Arab News.
“Currently we have chosen not to recall any merchandise in Saudi Arabia because not all digital cameras are experiencing the problem. Instead we are only servicing the defective products and replacing faulty parts free of charge as per Sony’s instructions.”
