KARACHI, 7 January 2007 — The Pakistan International Airlines has sacked 134 contractual employees owing to unsatisfactory performance even after they were given chances to improve.
According to PIA officials, these sacked employees of pay-group 1 to 3 were working for engineering, flight services, flight kitchen, traffic and administration departments for many years.
Wasim Sajjad, senior counsel for the sacked executives of the airline, challenged the contention of Ahmed Tariq Rahim, counsel for the PIA, that the airline was suffering losses and cannot afford overstaffing.
Wasim contended that after sacking low paid employees the airline had recruited new officers and consultants on huge salaries, benefits, and privileges.
