MADINAH, 20 February 2007 — Around three in the morning recently in a neighborhood here, the microphone of a local mosque was turned on and a man began recollecting to the entire area his fond memories of a beloved relative that recently passed away, the daily Al-Madinah reported yesterday. Residents called the police thinking some crazy man had broken into the mosque and fired up the sound system for his pointless rants. Later in police custody, the guy claimed that he was simply trying to inform the neighborhood of a funeral that had been planned on short notice because the morgue had only recently released the body of the relative. He said he thought the best way to inform everyone of the impromptu last rites was to announce it on the mosque sound system...at three in the morning. Perhaps next time, the man will consider a more reasonable hour.
