DAMMAM, 22 February 2007 — The shooting of a new Saudi film is set to start in a few days at locations in Morocco, Egypt and Saudi Arabia.
The Arab entertainment company Rotana will produce Khaled Sami’s “Akhuya Al-Kabir” (“My Big Brother”), based on the screenplay written by Khaled Al-Farraj. The cast includes Hassan Hosni, Turki Al-Yusuf, Maise Hamdan and Muhammad Al-Sairafi.
The film is being called a big-budget Saudi drama presented in satirical style, according to Sami, who is director and lead actor of the film. In an interview with Al-Watan daily published yesterday, Sami added that he planned to line up at least 10 Saudi actors including female artists in the film.
On a question why several actors who participated in last year’s award-winning “Keif Al-Hal” are appearing in the “Akhuya Al-Kabir,” the director said. “Every film has its own unique setting. We realize that the Saudi spectators appreciate conventional films highlighting the common man’s dreams and problems.”
Jordanian actress Maise Hamdan, actress of Jordanian origin was the heroine of the first Saudi film “Keif Al-Hal”, will act in the film. Hassan Hosni is a Saudi actor of Iraqi origin while Turki Al-Yusuf is another Saudi rising star in the Arab screen. Muhammad Al-Sairafi is a well-known Kuwaiti actor.
