ISLAMABAD, 23 February 2007 — Minister of State for Interior Zafar Iqbal Warraich told the National Assembly, the lower house of Parliament, yesterday that 15 terror suspects were arrested for involvement in major acts of terrorism across the country.
Winding up a debate in the National Assembly on the law and order situation, the minister said those arrested were involved in attacks on Shiite mosques and government installations. Warraich did not identify the terror suspects or the organizations they belong to saying investigation was in progress.
He said the suspects were involved in the bombing of Bari Imam mosque in Islamabad, a Shiite mosque in Karachi and had attacked a religious procession in Hangu. The government came under attack from the opposition over the deteriorating law and order situation in the country.
Soldier Injured in Attack
One soldier was injured when militants ambushed an army convoy in the tribal region yesterday. Police said the convoy was on its way to Parachinar from Tal in the tribal region bordering Afghanistan.
A police officer in Tal, Hussain Basha, said it was not clear whether the blast was caused by a hand grenade or a land mine.
