JEDDAH, 4 April 2007 — A 32-year-old man has confessed to raping and killing a six-year-old boy and dumping his body in Jeddah’s Al-Jamiah area, local media reported yesterday.
The suspect had been picked up less than two hours after the body was discovered. Police say he was the one who called in to report the body, which he had left in a plastic bag close to his family home where he was apprehended.
Forensic experts found physical evidence of forced sodomy and determined that the child had died from suffocation. The man allegedly confessed that he had accidentally killed the boy as he was muffling his cries for help. The confessed rapist said he dumped the body near the home in an attempt to throw off police, according to the report.
Police say they have matched threads found on the boy’s body to clothing the suspect was wearing. He had a criminal background, though police didn’t elaborate.
