THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, 10 March 2007 — The 67th edition of the Indian History Congress will begin at Farook College in Kozhikode today. Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan will inaugurate the congress at 10.30 a.m. while Calicut University Vice Chancellor Anwar Jahan Zuberi will release a souvenir on the occasion. Some 1,200 delegates from across the country, historians, academics and vice chancellors, are expected to participate.
All Set for Heera Rally
The Heera Rally 2007, part of the 22nd edition of the Indian National Rally Championship, will see 30 of the best car drivers in India vying for top honors today. Top names of the Indian rally sports — Arjun Balu, Gaurav Gill, Karandip Singh, Byram Godrej will pit their skills against 26 other contenders for the total prize money of about Rs. 450,000. The 2nd round of the INRC will be held in Chandigarh and the final round is scheduled in November in Pune.
Kollam-Kottappuram Waterway
Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan said the government expects to complete the Kollam-Kottappuram stretch of the National Waterway-3 by the middle of 2008. Replying to a question in the state assembly, he said objections by the Chinese net owners and people residing on the banks of the channel had affected the progress of the project.
Students Offered Fat Packages
Twenty-one students from the Indian Institute of Management-Kozhikode have got lucrative jobs with annual salary ranging between $85,000 and $110,000. The offers came from Olam International, Infosys, Wipro, Patni Computers, Cognizant and RPG group for placements in the US, Europe, Middle East and in the Asia-Pacific region, an IIM-K release said.
