JEDDAH, 21 March 2007 — Police here are on the lookout for a suspect in the March 7 murder of Shai Al-Otabi, Makkah Region police spokesman Brig. Gen. Saleh Al-Ghamdi said yesterday.
The spokesman said that police are seeking a man that they suspect committed the crime, but whose identity is unknown. Police have released the suspect’s picture that they obtained from an ATM machine where he allegedly used the victim’s cash card to make a withdrawal.
Police are offering a reward for information leading to the suspect’s capture, said the spokesman. He requested anyone having any information about the man to report to the nearest police station or telephone security operations (999), central operations (899), or the criminal investigations department (02-6732866).
The victim, a Saudi in his 30s, was found dead in a garden near Prince Fawaz housing project located on the Makkah Expressway.
Sources said Al-Otabi died as a result of two gunshot wounds. Two days later his car was found abandoned in an undisclosed area of the city. The only thing missing was his wallet, which contained his cash card.
