TABUK, 24 March 2007 — Moms are great at getting deeply involved in the personal lives of their beloved children. It’s in their genes. Indeed, it is the very thing that makes moms who they are. One mother took this fact to heart when she proposed to her teacher on behalf of her son. According to a report in yesterday’s Al-Madinah daily, the 45-year-old woman was taking classes for older students. After six months, she decided the teacher was a perfect match for her son. The teacher was taken aback by the proposal and said she needed time to think about it. As of yet, she has not accepted the offer. Perhaps she doesn’t feel right after she discovered the mother apparently also asked another teacher to marry her son as well. One of the important factors in proposing marriage is to make sure the would-be bride feels like the only woman in the world that could being happiness to the would-be groom.

Man Arrested for Making Godly Claim

YANBU, 24 March 2007 — There seems to be a lot of shysters and charlatans in Saudi Arabia who are quick to exploit people’s genuine religious piety and superstitions about magic and charms. Newspapers are filled with regular stories about people arrested here and there for casting “spells” and engaging in other trickery using silly little charms and tokens. Recently an Asian expatriate was arrested for distributing fliers in this northwestern Saudi port city saying hat he had some special message from God announcing that 40,000 women were about to die for being disobedient, the daily Al-Madinah reported recently. Although the man never explained why this alleged “message from the Almighty” would have isolated women for bad behavior, he was going around town forcing women to take his flier, warning them that if they didn’t God would smite them. After the nut-job was arrested, religious scholars stepped in and told people to ignore such nonsense.
