HAIL, 1 April 2007 — A father of a boy who was allegedly the victim of a teacher’s corporal punishment in this central Saudi city, went to the school the next day with six family members and confronted the teacher in a uniquely violent way, the local Al-Watan daily newspaper reported yesterday. The father went up to the teacher, who thought the man was approaching for a friendly chat, unaware that he was the angry dad. The father proceeded to attack the teacher, or, more specifically, the teacher’s beard. The family members that accompanied the dad joined in and proceeded to manually pull hair out of the guy’s face. After removing as much of the teacher’s facial hair as they could tear off in little bunches, the attackers fled the scene. Bleeding and in a great deal of pain the teacher collected the hair off the ground as evidence and complained to local authorities. Now the father and the teacher are duking it out before the judge.

Shortcut Leads to Roadside Birth

KHURMA, 1 April 2007 — The woman’s contractions began to grow closer together and the husband knew it was time to take his wife to the hospital, 70 kilometers away. According to a report in a local newspaper yesterday, the couple took a short cut down a rural road to get to the healthcare facility. Then the car broke down. There was not enough time to find another way to the hospital, and the couple was forced to work together to give birth beneath a tree by the side of the road. The birth went off without a hitch and the couple managed to wave down a ride to the hospital, where the mother was treated for exhaustion and the newborn was declared healthy. This goes to show that despite the advanced in technology, it’s still possible for a woman to give birth au natural.

Principal’s Principle Lands Him a Demotion

MADINAH, 1 April 2007 — The head of a high school was demoted near this holy city after he applied the “do as I say not as I do” principle to being a principal. According to a report in yesterday’s Okaz daily, the principal — known for being continuously tardy — arrived late for work along with one of the school’s teachers. He then proceeded to scold the teacher for being late for work. The teacher pointed out to the headmaster that he, too, was late, and that he’s typically late. Peeved at the sassiness of the remark, the principal punched the teacher in the face and threw him to the ground. The teacher complained. Education officials decided this was un-principal-like behavior and demoted him to being a lowly teacher.
