RIYADH, 3 April 2007 — The General Administration for the Medical Services of the Armed Forces began yesterday a fourth annual conference entitled “The Quality of Prevention, Medication and Training.”
The two-day conference is being run under the support of Prince Khaled ibn Sultan, assistant to the minister of defense and aviation for military affairs, and is examining ways to enhance health care for the Kingdom’s armed forces in order to bring them in line with standards in advanced countries.
Attending the conference are a host of doctors specializing in military medicine from across the Middle East.
Director General of the Medical Services of the Armed Forces Ketab Al-Otaibi told Arab News that the General Administration for the Medical Services of the Armed Forces have set up future strategies to organize further conferences due to the effective and key role played by such events in enhancing performance both medically and administratively.
“The fourth conference is discussing several important themes such as providing medical service on the ground, nursing in the Arab world and proof-based medicine,” said Al-Otaibi.
On the sidelines of the conference, Prince Khaled inaugurated the first phase of a project to unify systems at armed forces hospitals in the Kingdom. The first phase of this three-year project will see the unification of 20 hospitals and 68 clinics in five regions of the Kingdom. The project has been signed with Kerfi Arabia.
Khaled Suliman, CEO of Kerfi Arabia, told Arab News, “By signing this project, Kerfi Arabia, a leading international systems integrator, has taken the challenge to resolve the problem that military personnel have been facing for ages. Thousands of armed forces hospital personnel were troubled with having inconsistent medical records at different hospitals and clinics throughout the Kingdom due to their constant and unforeseen relocations.”
