MUMBAI, 3 April 2007 — The government of Maharashtra on the complaint of Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company (MSEDC) has warned two private power operators Tata Power Company and Reliance Energy Ltd. not to withdraw power from Maharashtra’s share but to arrange it on their own to meet the demand of the state. In a meeting held yesterday between Principal Secretary (Energy) Rahul Asthana and representatives of TPC, REL and MSEDC, the two private operators were told that they would have to arrange for the additional power of 200 MW in two days to meet the severe shortage of power to Mumbai. The private operators agreed to arrange the additional power from other sources than the MSEDC, but requested some more time, however, the request was rejected.
