RIYADH, 5 April 2007 — A Saudi woman is calling on the Interior Ministry to protect her from her husband who blackmails her by threatening to spread sexually explicit pictures and videos of her if she does not comply with his demands to be allowed to continue immoral relationships with other women.

The couple, who are from Arar, married some time ago and ended up divorcing three days after their marriage. After some time the man said he wanted to remarry her claiming he had divorced her under pressure from his family.

The woman agreed and returned to her husband under certain conditions, which among other things included separate accommodation, Al-Eqtisadiah newspaper reported.

The woman said that her husband would film and photograph her when they were in private claiming he wanted to do so to commemorate their reunion. Later, he began to blackmail her to be allowed to bring mistresses to his home in her presence and not complain.

When the woman refused her husband’s wanton demands, the man threatened to spread the footage via Bluetooth to the authorities and members of the public. Exasperated with the situation, the woman fled Arar to Riyadh and is seeking protection with the authorities.

Saudi authorities have given the woman protection and are currently investigating the allegations.
